Frequently Asked Questions
What does it feel like to be hypnotised?
It is a state of complete relaxation and calm, both mentally and physically. Some liken the hypnotic state to moments when your mind has been wandering and you were lost in thought. Some may say they felt very heavy, as if they were sinking right down into their chair, whilst others may have felt they were floating. Hypnosis is a different experience for every individual.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, everyone has the natural ability to be hypnotised as long as they want to be and have the ability to concentrate. It is unrelated to imagination, personality or intelligence.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes hypnosis is safe. It is a naturally occurring state. People think it is a means of taking away control, but it’s actually a means of enhancing it. It has been recognised by the British Medical Association (BMA) since 1955 and the American Medical Association (AMA) since 1958.
Will I remember everything that went on?
Yes, although it is often described as watching a film, you may remember some details, but there may be many you don’t.
Is everything I say confidential?
At Hypnotherapy London Ltd., we take your confidentiality seriously and ensure it is respected at all times. We adhere to a comprehensive Code of Ethics and Practice, which includes strict confidentiality.
How long does a session last?
The initial session usually takes about 1½ – 2hrs, as it involves taking a thorough history and discussing and planning with you the treatment that’s best for you. Subsequent sessions are usually about 1hour.
A one off therapy for smoking cessation will be a 2 hour session approximately, or gastric band hypnotherapy will be in session blocks of 2 hours.
How many sessions will I need?
On average most people have 3 – 4 sessions. Hypnotherapy is a very effective therapy, but results may vary from individual to individual, as do the number of sessions needed to achieve their desired outcome.
What if I have to cancel my appointment?
At Hypnotherapy London Ltd., we fully understand there may be times when there is no alternative but to cancel a session. If you cannot attend a session, we would appreciate at least 24 hours notice or you may be liable for the full cost of the session.
Do you give a guarantee?
No therapy can give 100% guarantee, just as no doctor can guarantee you’ll get well and teachers can’t guarantee you’ll learn. Results of therapies may differ for different individuals.
Always be cautious of a therapist offering a guarantee!
